Description

Calcite is a calcium carbonate media used to raise the pH of acidic water. This 1/2 cubic foot fill is designed for acid neutralization in residential and commercial settings, typically raising water from about pH 5.4 to 6.8 up to a neutral range of 7.0 to 7.8. As the media dissolves during use, it helps reduce the potential leaching of copper, lead, and other metals from typical plumbing systems.

Calcite is a slower-reacting, controlled correction media with a high uniformity coefficient for good contact. It should be backwashed regularly to prevent packing and maintain service rates, and the bed must be replenished periodically as the calcite is consumed. Because calcium carbonate adds hardness as it neutralizes water, a softener may be needed after the neutralizing filter in some applications.
